Contamination from plastic pipes in small systems: migration and leaching

چکیده
Abstract In recent years, extensive laboratory-scale research has focused on the biofilm formation, leaching, and migration of organic chemical compounds from plastic pipes into drinking water. This been conducted an existing distribution network in three rural villages near dead ends to study small diameter associated with stagnant or low flow conditions. The was constructed more than ten years ago using unplasticized polyvinyl chloride pipes. Samples water, soil, aged have collected tested laboratory. Results showed a heavy formed inner surfaces uPVC resulted high concentrations trihalomethanes, total carbon, PAHs predominant were acenaphthylene followed by naphthalene, while no detected at source. SEM images deterioration pipe walls, swelled parts, pores. EDX confirms some elements including O, Cl, Ca, Ti, Mg, Fe K due biodegradation material Ca/Zn stabilizers. However, released flowing water are caused metabolic activities. addition, results that surrounding soil classified as having content. Hence, need protection change manufacturing processes reduce their hazards networks over time.

Modeling of Transient Flow in Plastic Pipes
We present a numerical code for calculating transient flow in plastic pipes, especially in the polyethylene pipe, to analysis water hammer phenomena. The set partial differential equations to be solved is obtained using conservation laws and behavior for the fluid and the pipe wall, associated with constitutive equations of the two media, and relationships compatibility of interfaces on velocit...
متن کاملLeaching of plastic additives to marine organisms.
It is often assumed that ingestion of microplastics by aquatic species leads to increased exposure to plastic additives. However, experimental data or model based evidence is lacking. Here we assess the potential of leaching of nonylphenol (NP) and bisphenol A (BPA) in the intestinal tracts of Arenicola marina (lugworm) and Gadus morhua (North Sea cod). We use a biodynamic model that allows cal...
متن کاملClimate change impacts on the leaching of a heavy metal contamination in a small lowland catchment.
The Keersop catchment (43km(2)) in the south of The Netherlands has been contaminated by the emissions of four zinc ore smelters. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of future projected climate change on the hydrology and the leaching of heavy metals (i.e. Cd and Zn) in the catchment. The numerical, quasi-2D, unsaturated zone Soil Water Atmosphere Plant model was used with 100...
